What it pays for
Grants for body armor for eligible officers, designed around a five year replacement cycle. Funded by a $1 fee on motor vehicle and traffic fines and bail forfeitures (N.J.S.A. 52:17B-4.4; N.J.A.C. 13:80A). Every timely applicant gets a $500 base award plus a pro rata share by number of eligible officers. Applicants must have a written mandatory body armor wear policy for uniformed officers in patrol or field operations.

- Local (municipal and county) law enforcement and correctional agencies with full-time sworn officers who have arrest powers; also NJ State Police, Division of Criminal Justice, Administrative Office of the Courts, Department of Corrections, State Parole Board and Juvenile Justice Commission.

- Annual online application through njoag.gov; SFY24 window was July 8 to August 30, 2024 (about $2.45M). An SFY26 notice was issued June 2026 (about $3.476M per search summary of the notice).
