What it pays for
State-funded reimbursement of 50 percent of the cost of bullet-resistant body armor vests for sworn law enforcement officers (Protective Body Armor Fund, 1995). Program history also covers stab-resistant vests and replacement when testing or age requires it. Awards weigh violent crime, number of sworn officers, officers without armor, and the number and age of vests in use.
The rules
- Who can apply
- Local law enforcement agencies of any county, incorporated city or town, including Baltimore City. State agencies are not eligible.
- Match or cost share
- 50 percent reimbursement; the agency covers the rest.
- When
- SFY 2027 application deadline was April 17, 2026, 11:59 PM.
